Apprenticeship Dispute

Dale was a 2nd year construction apprentice. He learned that his grandfather had died suddenly and he had to attend the funeral in rural SA. He left with his family, arranging the time off with his employer hastily. His boss said to let him know when he would be back at work. He was gone a week. He received a call from his boss the next week on the Monday, asking where he was. He was told to come to work the next day. He arrived at work and was advised of a meeting with his boss and supervisor, he was presented with papers cancelling his apprenticeship. He refused to sign them and was unlawfully terminated.
